Company Profile

BKL Fittings Ltd was formed in 1936 as a company involved in the smelting of Aluminium. Pipe fittings were first made in the late 1940's which coincided with the expansion of the then chemical, petrochemical, gas and power industries. BKL Fittings moved to its present site in Redditch in 1970.

This facility was further developed and enhanced through to the present time whereby BKL Fittings Ltd is the largest UK manufacturer of "commodity" and "special" butt weld fittings in carbon and alloy steels.

During the late 1960's and the 1970's two further key developments were made:

1. Nuclear class fittings for European, Canadian and South American markets.

2. The manufacture of extruded outlet manifolds.

Both these new initiatives resulted in extensive business in both the Nuclear and Offshore Industries which enhanced the reputation of BKL Fittings Ltd as a quality manufacturer.

This extremely active period saw BKL Fittings Ltd change ownership from the GKN Group of companies to the Benkan Group, the largest manufacturer of butt weld fittings in the world. BKL's links with the Benkan group gives it the opportunity to make use of the products and expertise available from the factories in Japan and Thailand.

Over this same period BKL further added to its capability by investing in new and updated equipment for the manufacture of commodity fittings. Consequently this has enabled a wider range of special fittings including some of more exotic alloys like Duplex, Super Duplex, Nickel Alloys and Titanium to be supplied.

This has resulted in substantial business benefits in Home, Europe, Scandinavia and international sectors.

During its growth from the early 1960's BKL has used the expertise gained from hot forming fittings to develop special items of fittings-related products.

This in particular has made BKL experts in the forming of hot extruded outlets which enabled pipe work designers to use seamless multi outlet headers and manifolds as viable alternatives to welded fabricated units.

More recent developments have seen BKL open a stand alone special manufacturing unit integrated on the same site, for the manufacture of cold formed butt welding fittings up to 2" NB in materials such as Stainless Steel, Nickel Alloys, Duplex and Titanium.

Stocking Policy

As a major manufacturer BKL Fittings will always have an extensive range of fittings either as finished goods stock or as manufacturing work in progress These can be ordered to suit your ongoing commitments.

BKL Fittings are prepared to enter into long term supply agreements with individual clients against guaranteed call off and price level which BKL will support by an appropriate stock level.

Availability

Individual orders for Butt welded fittings can be delivered either directly from stock or within 10 weeks from receipt of order. BKL would use either raw material held in our own stocks, or that available from local stockists. N.B. Fittings can be made using our customers free issue materials where this is appropriate.

Commodity fittings made from carbon steel, can be delivered within  8-16 weeks. This enables disciplined production scheduling to meet a customer driven forward order programme.

Special products e.g. extruded outlets delivery will be agreed for each individual order taking into account design, engineering and sometimes special raw material requirements.

New Developments

Over the past few years BKL Fittings have invested heavily specifically in new capital equipment and in the refurbishment of existing dedicated machinery and associated tooling. This investment has enabled BKL Fittings Ltd to greatly increase its production capacity.

Current investment commissioned earlier in March of this year includes equipment for the manufacture of cold formed extruded outlets enabling a greater range and flexibility to these products.

Other equipment has also been installed, updated and commissioned this year that is capable of machining elbows both through the bore and on the outside diameter. This is particular relevant to the power industries both fossil and Nuclear application where controlled bores and/or anti contamination products are essential to the operation of the power generation units.

Quality

BKL Fittings Ltd have always enjoyed an excellent reputation for supplying quality fittings. BKL Fittings Ltd operate a quality management system in accordance with ISO 9002 verified by regular independent third party assessment company LRQA. Quality approval certificates for T.U.V., Stoomwezen and Rolls Royce Power Engineering (Nuclear Class 1) are also held.
